Porsche Carrera RS Featured
in Sports Car Market
|
| The 1973
Porsche Carrera RS Touring that was purchased at the RM auction in August,
2001 was featured in the November issue of the Sports Car Market.
Jim Schrager wrote "With its high degree of originality, this Porsche
is a top contender to rise above the head of the market. ... This is a
real car. ... The Carrera RS has emerged as one of the most collectable
street Porsches of all time. For an early enthusiast, they represent
the ultimate race-bred street car, in some ways the Ferrari SWB of the
Porsche world." Thank you Jim. |
Cooper Monaco Appears at
the 2001 Goodwood Revival
|
| The Ecurie
Ecosse Cooper Monaco returned to England to join the largest private
collection of Ecurie Ecosse vehicles in the world. As part of
its return, the car took part in the 2001 Goodwood Revival participating
in the John Cooper Memorial Parade. Look for the car to appear in
Speedvision's coverage of the event to air in December, 2001. |

Star Magazine
Cover and Article
|
| Just as a song on the
radio brings back memories of a wonderful time, the arrival of the January
/ February 2001 issue of Star Magazine brought back memories of the
Gullwing Group convention. As we removed the wrapper of the
Mercedes-Benz Club of America's national magazine, we recognized the cover
shot as that of our 1957 300SL Roadster (See
1957
Mercedes 300 SL) sitting proudly in front of
the elegant Biltmore House. In addition, there was an article on the event
in the publication. This included a wonder photograph of Holly-Faye
sitting in our car during the Blue Ridge Parkway rally. |

2000 Gullwing Convention
|
|
| The
first weekend of October found us in Asheville, North Carolina for the
2000 Gullwing Group convention. The Gullwing Group is an
international group of owners and enthusiasts of Mercedes Benz 300SL
Gullwings and Roadsters built between 1955 and 1962. We took our
1958 Roadster with our freshly rebuilt engine. (See Featured
Car.) The event was a wonderful time with an opportunity to
renew old acquaintances as well as meeting many new friends. The
weather could not have been better, and the sight of 55 beautifully turned
out 300SL's only made the air seem sweeter. Friday saw an
opportunity to drive the Blue Ridge Parkway with other enthusiasts.
The windy mountain road seemed made the 300SL and was the closest thing to
a Black Forest excursion on this side of the pond. Saturday was the
day all were looking forward to, with the expectation of displaying our
vehicles on the lawn in front of the Biltmore Estate and a chance to tour
the Biltmore House. The sight of some of the most desirable
automobiles of the twentieth century on display in front of the most
magnificent American home of the nineteenth century seemed made for each
other. Our car seemed right at home there. The culmination of
the weekend was the black tie banquet Saturday night at the
Estate. It was an opportunity to reflect on the weekend and talk
about next year's event in Victoria, British Columbia. For us the
the icing on a wonderful cake was our First Place award for a Roadster in
the Street Class at the Concourse on Saturday. |
